AAB’s impact on blood hemoglobin levels has substantial implications for athletes: Blood flow operates similarly to a hose. The same way as when you pump greater amounts of water through a hose for enhanced water flow, one way to increase blood, nutrient and oxygen delivery to muscle tissues is to increase your total blood volume. AAB works through an analogous mechanism by augmenting and improving your total blood volume and hemoglobin levels!

It is not surprising then that the level of hemoglobin in our bodies is a primary predictor of exercise performance (Otto, Montgomery and Richards, 2013). Multiple studies have shown a linear relationship between hemoglobin levels and endurance performance, demonstrating that a drop in hemoglobin by just 11% can decrease endurance performance by as much as 40%. Conversely, raising hemoglobin above normal levels can substantially enhance exercise performance. In fact, some studies have found that total circulating hemoglobin mass can predict up to 94% of an athlete’s ability to maximally consume and utilize oxygen in tissues (VO2 max), which is a strong predictor of exercise performance. Such results explain why for years athletes have been trying to “blood dope” to raise their blood volume and hemoglobin levels to potentially break records and win events.
